If you’re more of a reader than a watcher, the nitty-gritty of the discussion is as follows:

Current State of Campaign Budget Optimization

CBO alert! Facebook moved back the official roll out date to February!

The benefits that we have seen so far are that it’s obviously way easier to manage and set up. You set up your campaign and let Facebook do what it does. It’s also been super helpful in cases we have looked to test out various lookalikes.

Are we thrilled about using it? Not really. It’s still very unpredictable. It requires a bigger budget to start, a lot more patience, and it can definitely end up being more expensive.

If you aren’t doing so yet we recommend testing now before this rolls out completely. Also, if your interested in more details in CBO testing around the world check out this article.

2019 Internet Trends Report

We also checked out Mary Meeker's 2019 Internet Trends Report, and sourced some interesting nuggets for you.

The main theme is digital advertising growth is happening largely within mobile due to increased smartphone penetration and cheaper mobile data. Although obvious, it’s a good reminder that we should be more heavily focused on making sure everything is optimized for mobile. Unless you have a really good reason not to do so (like the data tells you different), you want to make sure that things like landing pages, websites, ad creative, and videos are all made with mobile in mind (and desktop secondarily).

The report also surfaced that as far as advertising revenue goes, Amazon advertising is the fastest growing competitor to Facebook and Google. Amazon is third and constantly growing but still far behind the duopoly. Facebook and Google collectively owned 89% of all growth in advertising revenue in 2018.

Toys R Us Rising From The Grave

Toy R Us is back in action! We know all you 90’s babies are going crazy with us.

Tru Kids, the company which now owns Toys R Us and Babies R Us will be opening new stores this holiday season. The stores will be like never before -  they won’t be selling any toys. All sales will be direct with the manufacturers and Tru Kids will make money from the manufacturers paying a fee to be able to sell at the stores.

This is an online eCommerce world Christmas wish come true! This could be a hugely disruptive concept and we’re excited to see what other companies enter this sphere.

What have you run into when testing CBO? Do you have any thoughts on the Toys R Us resurrection? Leave us a comment below.
